Oh man...

E-mail Print PDF

Today was our first official day with a real teacher.  And oh man were we challenged.  This week is all on the importance of prayer.  I have always been a slacker when it comes to praying.  Recently I had been feeling convicted about this so this class was a real kick to my gut.  Our teacher is a Jewish believer which is fascinating to me to learn from him.  His name is Ed Kleiman with Small Cloud Ministries and his website is www.praybold.org.  I highly encourage you all to check it out.  Here is a man completely devoted to prayer.  And really it makes sense.  How can we expect to grow in our faith if we never confess, talk, petition, praise and intercede in prayer?

I could sermonize you for paragraphs but dinner is calling and the kids are getting restless.  Communal living is fun at mealtimes.  We take turn cooking and cleaning and we usually all eat together.  If you wanted to pray for us this week (which you will if you check out Ed's website) you could pray for patience for me.  I am really struggling with Hannah.  We are butting heads every few minutes.  Also Aiden and Hannah start school tomorrow.  Pray for their fitting in quickly.  And please keep our whole team here in prayer.  You can pray specifically for the countries they are all going to.

Abby is going to Hungary, Anna and Kristin are going to Slovakia, the Roberts family is going to Romania and we of course are going to Uganda.  Thanks so much for all you prayers and interest in what God is doing among us!

Full of Praises...

Today Hannah was able to come home.  Her oxygen levels stayed at 95% all night which is really good.  So on the morning of my anniversary I was able to come home and enjoy the day with my husband and family.  Yipee!

Today was mine and Daniel's turn to share our life story with our fellow students.  When we were done they all gathered around us and the kids and prayed over us.  I was humbled and filled and at peace.

We also found out today that there will be two other missionary families on the ground in Kampala when we arrive! I was feeling jealous of the other students here who all have other missionaries to work under in their respective countries.  I began praying a few days ago that God would send other people to work with us in Uganda.  So today it became official that there is a family who has been there for four years from Kenya.  We will intern with them and also another family from South Africa who did a Calvary Chapel church plant.  Both families have kids my kids ages.  To have these two families will be such a blessing to us.

Another blessing and praise has been my kids.  In the last few months they have  been sleeping in various places, had their house sold from under them, their toys sold, and have been asked to adapt quickly to a communal living environment.  On top of that they are all sharing a room, have all had chicken pox and have had one parent at a time while Hannah was in the hospital.  And yet they are flourishing.  The other students here have all told me how wonderful the kids have been.  They have been respectful, quiet, polite and friendly.  It is such a relief to me that not only are my kids behaving but others really enjoy them.  They have been through a lot.

I have been a little lonely here and cry every so often when I think of my friends and family.  And yet all of us students have bonded a little and seem able to live together quite comfortably. It is a weird thing to live with strangers and yet adapt so quickly. They have been a source of comfort and help for us in these last few days.  Truly we are blessed here.

Thank you all again for your prayers.  Please don't stop...we have a long way to go.  I pray that you all would be blessed in your daily lives and have testimonies of grace to share too....

Happy 9 Years of Wedded Bliss!

E-mail Print PDF

Well, this isn't the way I was expecting to celebrate my 9th wedding anniversary.  Dan and I have seen eachother during the shift changes at the hospital for about 10 minutes each time.  I miss my husband a lot.  And even more so with our anniversary being tomorrow.  I can't believe we have been married for 9 years.  We were both immature, wretched, selfish people when we first met.  Now we are immature, wretched, selfish and IN LOVE.  Oh yeah and there is the fact that we both love Jesus now.  Without Jesus we would have devoured eachother years ago.

Please continue to pray for our marriage as we are re-learning how to respond to eachother in a new setting.  Pray that Hannah will be able to come home tomorrow so that we can spend some much needed time together as a family.  Pray that Dan and I will have new-found strength in our marriage for what is to come on the mission field.

To Daniel....I LOVE YOU!  Happy Anniversary!

A bit irrational

Okay, I'm a lot irrational right now.  Last night was a rough night in ICU with Hannah.  She was crying every two minutes, "I'm DONE having chicken pox.  I want to go home."  It was mildly amusing but got old really fast.  She also looked at me and said, "It's really hard being me.  Why is life so hard?".  Wow, how do you answer that to a five year old?  I wanted to say the same thing.  It is hard being me.  Right now life is hard.  Poor me, wah, wah.  But I have no excuse for complaining.  We had an amazing chrisitan nurse yesterday.  Lovely people helping us today.  People praying all over the world, literally!  And yet I keep getting down.  I am really tired and irrational right now and just want my daughter home with me getting well.  But I want to truly be happy in all circumstances.  I guess the key is that it is a constant choice.  I keep thinking one prayer will "cure" me of my melancholy and frustation.  But I think I have to battle through this and be in constant prayer.  Hey, I guess it's hands on homework.  Everything I have been studying about prayer this week now has an outlet for me to use it on.  Saints....I sooooo appreciate your prayers.  Please don't stop.  When I left the hospital this afternoon Hannah was back on oxygen and feeling poorly.  Please continue to bring her before the throne.  And rest assured, after a shower and a nap and time with my boys I will not sound so defeated.  God is good and sovereign and has it all taken care of.

Intercessory Prayer needed right now

Well, the latest in the saga of Hannah's life is that she ended up in ICU with chicken pox related pnuemonia.  She is really struggling and feeling poorly and her lung function is pretty low.  Please pray for her health and my understanding of why this keeps happening.  We know that God is calling us into missions so please pray that we would trust Him even in the face of major illness.  God did bless us with a great nurse named Kevin who is a Christian.  He prayed for Hannah in the midst of a break down she had this morning.  God is not indifferent to our woes.  Thank you for supporting us in prayer.  I'll keep you posted.  Also Aiden broke out worse this morning but is doing okay.  He is pretty quiet and sleepy.  But I feel bad that he isn't getting the attention he needs.  Between schooling, Hannah's needs and daily stuff to be done, he tends to get lost in the shuffle.  Pray for his healing as well.

Daily Verse (ESV)

  • Ephesians 2:8-9
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
